Spinach (Spinacia oleracea)

The spinach (Spinacia oleracea) we eat today comes from the Amaranth family and is believed to have originated in Southwest Asia. Although the plants can reach heights of 50 to 100 centimetres, the long-stemmed leaves are often harvested when still young due to their more delicate flavour. Spinach has a high content ofminerals, vitamins (β-Carotene, also known as provitamin A, B vitamins, Vitamin C) and protein.
